# Add an analysis

## Add an analysis to explore the activity’s contributions from a particular theme, perspective, or analysis need.

When you open the **Analyze** tab, you can begin building the analysis view by selecting an analysis type.

### How to add an analysis

1. Open the **Analyze** tab
2. Select **Add analysis**
3. Choose the type of analysis you want to create
4. Complete the options displayed for the selected analysis type
5. Add the analysis to the analysis view

When no analyses have been added, the available analysis types are also displayed as shortcuts on the page.

### Choose the analysis based on your needs

Your selection should be based on what you want to understand in the material.

For example, choose:

- **Pattern analysis** to examine recurring themes
- **Needs analysis** to explore expressed needs
- **Risk analysis** to highlight risks in the material
- **AI question** when you want to formulate a custom analysis question

### Add multiple analyses

You can build the analysis view with several analyses. This allows you to examine the same contributions from different perspectives without limiting the analysis to one area.

**Tip:**  
Start with a broad analysis and then add more specific analyses based on what the initial results reveal.
