# How to build a flow

## Build a flow by adding and configuring the steps that participants should complete during the activity.

When you open the **Flow** tab, you will see the **Steps in the flow** section. This is where you build the activity by adding the stages that participants should encounter.

### 1. Add a step

Select **Add** or the plus button in the flow.

Then choose the type of step you want to create:

- Instruction
- Collect
- Like
- Rate
- Let AI suggest

### 2. Enter the step title

Give the step a title that clearly communicates what participants should do.

Examples:

- Read this before you begin
- Share your suggestion
- Like relevant contributions
- Rate the potential impact

### 3. Add a description

For steps that include a description field, explain the task and give participants the context they need.

A useful description answers:

- What should the participant do?
- What should the participant consider?
- Why is this step important?

### 4. Configure the settings

The available settings depend on the selected step type. You may be able to configure:

- Contribution fields
- Minimum and maximum number of contributions
- Data source
- Loading order
- Rating scale
- Participant feedback

### 5. Save the step

Select **Save** when the step is ready.

You can then continue building the participant journey by adding another step.

**Tip:**  
Give each step one clear purpose. A short and logical flow is usually easier for participants to complete.
