# Create and customize scales in Explore

## Scale questions help you measure attitudes, experiences, and levels of agreement in a structured way.

When using the **Scale** question type, you can choose from predefined scales or create your own.

### Use common scales

Under **Use common**, you can find predefined options that are frequently used in surveys.

Examples:

- Strongly disagree – Strongly agree
- Very dissatisfied – Very satisfied

### Create custom scales

If the predefined options do not meet your needs, you can create a custom scale.

Select **Add option** to define your own response options.

### When should I use custom scales?

Custom scales are useful when:

- You want to use terminology specific to your organization
- You want to measure something unique to your organization
- You want to adapt the language to the target audience
