# Rate contributions in Flow

## Use the Rate step when participants should assess contributions using a shared rating scale.

In the **Rate** step, participants evaluate contributions collected in an earlier step.

You decide which scale to use, which contributions to display, and what feedback participants receive.

### Enter a title and description

Clearly explain what participants should rate.

Examples:

- Rate the value of the suggestions
- How feasible is the idea?
- How important is this issue?
- Assess the suggestion’s potential

### Select the rating scale

The prototype provides three scale options:

- 1–3
- 1–5
- 1–7

A shorter scale can make the choice easier, while a longer scale allows participants to express more nuanced assessments.

### Select a data source

Under **Data source**, select the earlier step that should supply contributions to the Rate step.

### Choose the loading order

Contributions can be displayed:

- Randomly for each participant
- In the same order for all participants

### Choose participant feedback

You can choose between:

**Summary**  
Displays the minimum, maximum, and average rating for the contribution.

**Detailed**  
Displays a summary and the distribution of ratings across the scale.

**Tip:**  
Always explain what the lowest and highest values on the scale represent. This helps participants use the scale more consistently.
