How do I attach a document for participants to read?
A document can be used as analysis material for Vocean AI, as information for participants, or for both purposes. How you add the document depends on how it should be used.
Start by deciding the purpose of the document:
- Should Vocean AI use the document?
- Should participants read the document?
- Should the document be used for both purposes?
If Vocean AI should use the document
Add the document under AI information at Process or activity level.
Choose:
- Process level if the document applies to several activities
- Activity level if the document only applies to the current Innovate activity
Add a description explaining how the AI should use the document.
For example:
Compare the participant responses with the attached procedure. Identify similarities, deviations, and possible areas for improvement.
If participants should read the document
Create a formatted text card in Innovate and set the card as a Participant instruction.
Add:
- A short introduction
- A link to the document
- Information about what participants should consider
- A clear instruction explaining how to continue
If the material is more extensive, you can instead create a Present page before the Innovate activity.
If both Vocean AI and participants should use the document
Add the document in two ways:
- As analysis material under AI information
- As a link or instruction in the participant experience
This is necessary because AI context and participant instructions serve different purposes. A document uploaded for AI analysis is not automatically displayed to participants.
Recommended setup for a procedure document
- Upload the procedure under AI information
- Explain that participant responses should be analyzed in relation to the procedure
- Create a formatted text card in Innovate
- Set the card as a Participant instruction
- Add a link to the procedure in the card
- Preview the participant experience
- Test the document link on both desktop and mobile devices
Alternative: Use Present before Innovate
A Present page can be a better option when participants need to review more extensive information before answering.
Use Present when you want to combine:
- Longer instructions
- Several documents or links
- Images
- Videos
- Tables
- Background information from several sources
Make sure the participant link provides access to both the Present activity and the following Innovate activity.
Tip
Be clear about whether participants are expected to read the entire document or only selected sections. This lowers the threshold for participation and can result in more relevant responses.
